Who Am I Not To Be

Welcome 2012. I have not posted any entries this year as I was busy with my family errands. My son entered a foundation course in Universiti Teknologi Petronas (Malaysia) in the middle of January just lately.

I am in the process of intergrating (hope I apply this word correctly!) my hobbies of bakery and gardening aspects into a webpage. I have created a page in my Facebook recently under the name of Norri Bake and NRK Garden . Feel free to visit these 2 pages not forgetting to “like” them and I’ll be writing further  about my online cookies….

Both my husband and I are slowly converting our outdoor backyard into a presentably nice and not too overcrowded landscape. We’ve started transferring some potted plants especially the bougainvilleas alongside the wire fence.

Tasty Treats of Homemade Tart Cookies For Eidul Fitri Celebration

Hi, its been very long time since I last post any entries. That’s  the duration of the busiest time of the year for me  according to  the Islamic calendar month of Rejab, Syaaban and Ramadhan. These 3 months I am heavily devoted to my baking of  homemade cookies and creating tasty treats of my product name “NorriBake Cookies” for  the Eidul Fitri Celebration. We take pride to ensure that our product gives you the “melt-in-your-mouth” satisfaction.

How I wished then there were more than 24/7….. to meet customers orders.  With only limited hours of sleep and rest my husband (thanks to my husband who just-retired-from employment) and I managed to accomodate all the work done from purchasing food supplies, production , packaging and  labelling up to delivery to customers. We are lucky most of the orders are from our resellers/agents, hence we don’t indulge much  into marketing of our niche product. Our most popular products are the Pineapple and Assorted Tarts as shown in the picture below

We have been blessed that most of the orders this year are from our loyal customers so we get quite a number of repeat orders. So much so we hardly have enough time to do house-keeping . Thank You all for the support.  A new product range from my Tart Cookies is the Assorted Tarts as shown in the picture below:

We do not hault our baking activities just because Hari Raya Eidul Fitri is over. We will still continue with our home bakery  throughout the year to accommodate for other functions like engagements and weddings. Feel free to contact us and discuss about your order requirements.

Baking and Gardening Activity for 2011

Hi, I’ve been busy starting my home gardening project. I process my own seedlings from the vegetables and fruits I prefer like mango tree, chillies and zucchini also some pots of flowering plants and herbs.

My activity planner for 2011 is simple ie….Baking for this coming festive season ie Hari Raya or Eidul Fitri celebration and at the same time start my Home Garden project growing vegetable, fruit trees not forgetting some flowering plants to create a cheerful and happening outlook at my backyard.

Since I moved back home I haven’t been busy baking execpt for an engagement party which is a small order of strawberry tarts and blueberry cheese tarts.

Cooking Tips :- to make a good crusty pie or base for tarts always refrigerate your flour, butter salted or unsalted, most importantly ice-cold water. Would be even better if you can keep your mixing bowl in the refrigerator for a while!

Thank you for those who drop by and read my entries on this simple blog in 2010. I am not aiming to make profit this year writing this blog but  just as an expression of what I have passion in doing. I have something which I have planned to do next year on my homemade cookies and tarts and I hope it works as I will be moving back to Shah Alam following my husband’s optional (early) retirement.

I wish to apologise some of the Pineapple recipes I attached do not have photos as they are from my family’s collection which I did not expect I will blog about.  However next year  ie. tomorrow onwards I will add a new category on baking and cooking tips regardless whether cooking with or without pineapple  as the ingredient.

Other Benefits Of Pineapple Fruits

Last weekend I went to the market to buy groceries for cooking over the  weekend lunch and dinner. I stumbled upon a stall selling “honey” pineapple. I bought one which is about  2 kg.  Wow!! aren’t they delicious???

This is the pineapple I bought….so delicious!!!

Pineapple is a  remarkable fruit. The fruit is not only enjoyable to eat because of its lush, sweet and exotic flavour, but it may also be one of the most healthful foods available today. If we take a more detailed look at it, we will find that pineapple is valuable for easing indigestion, arthritis or sinusitis. The juice  helps to get rid of intestinal worms.

I’m always interested to look at how pineapple affects other conditions of our body system.

Pineapple is high in manganese, a mineral that is critical to development of strong bones and connective tissue.  A cup of fresh pineapple will give you nearly 75% of the recommended daily amount. It is particularly helpful to older adults, whose bones tend to become brittle with age.

Because of my passion in gardening I also break off the top portion of the fruit or some called it the “crown” and wrapped the bottom with some wet tissue and newsprint papers. I sprinkled the papers sparingly every alternate mornings to make sure they remain fresh. I plan to grow  them ( there are 2 stalks) on the ground of my home when I go back to Subang  Bestari. Don’t know yet whether  the soil in our area are suitable….

Health and Nutrition to maintain ideal weight

Are you practising a healthy life style? “We are what we eat”.

This is a logical phrase that we often hear people describe. Many of us  neglect our health and do not consider  proper nutrition. I am not a Nutritionist  nor a Dietician but I am always concern about my diet especially after looking at  the statistics of world obesity which has increased three-fold according to World Health Organization (WHO).

I am writing this post not to be advisor on health and nutrition but to share some health info and tips which has become an important part of my life. Do you know how much you should weigh? Well, take a look at  the Body Mass Index calculator (BMI) and check  the data best described as your BMI. The ideal weight for a person should not be more than 30 kg/m2  (  total weight over  height in meters squared) . If you get more than 30 falls under obesity.

Are we taking the appropriate amount of calorie every day? If you are a women you require 2000 calories a day. A man should take 2500 amount of calories per day. In order to manage your weight you should subtract 500 calories from your diet and increase your activities to lose weight. Always remember if you want to be successful you must plan for  success. What little things are you able to do now that you weren’t before  when you become obese?

Ingredients.

1 cup cut riped pineapples./nenas

1 cup finely chopped strawberries/strawberi

1 cup seedless green grapes cut lengthwise/anggur hijau

1 1/2 cup pineapple juice

Pineapple Tarts My Favourite Homemade Cookies

My niche market is selling Tarts  specifically rolled pineapple tarts  ( I will release a new product soon after this). This mouth-watering homemade cookies are popular because they are a favourite family snack as well as for entertaining guests and as parcel  gifts for others.

Mv plan is to sell online  Pineapple Tarts and other variety tarts……but that will materialise when the time comes!!!

For those who like to try cooking any dishes or making  snacks or deserts with pineapple, I will reveal these pineapple recipes in my future posts as I am compiling some recipes which I learned from my mother and some are  few recipes which I gathered from relatives, magazines and favourite tv channels.
